I can't answer you this question, you better write a letter to the P&P
board to ask them about it.
Your can have a look at here http://www.acad.polyu.edu.hk/~bchcwu/iss_exam.htm
But from the Explanatory Notes on Registration as a Pharmacist by the
P &PBorad. It states:
You should have had relevant pre-registration training and/or post-registration
experience for an aggregate period of not less than one year (inclusive
of holiday entitlement of not more than 4 weeks) in the country in which
he/she has completed his/her studies in pharmacy or in another country.
At the discretion of the Board, an applicant who has had less than one
year's training and experience may be permitted to take the Board's examinations
and, upon passing all parts thereof, to undergo Board-approved training
for an appropriate period in Hong Kong or elsewhere.
You have to sit the exam anyway, and you can complete the pre-reg training in HK. But the problem is it may not be easy to find a such a position in HK. I would suggest you should complete the pre-reg training before you come back! (I have the same struggle in my final yearin UK!)
P.S. I really appreciate your homepage. It gives me lots of information. Pls keep it up!

Dear P,
Thank you for visiting our homepage!
Concerning your question, pharmacist like any
other profession or job should maintain the standard of knowledge , skill
and ethic. If you can satisfy the above three, I think you can be a good
pharmacist! The knowledge and skill are no problem in majority of cases.
We pharmacists like to say " put patient first", but can we do that in
real life situation in HK, you may face a loss of profit or even unemployment
or simply you don't have the authority and/ or the ability to change, that
is a ethical question!
Basically I would agree being a pharmacist in a good career, but the profession isn't "matured" in HK, you may have to invest 10 years until the situation can get better!
Love to communicate with a young guy like you, please sign the Guestbook and leave some commend!
I will record your message and this reply anonymously in the site for other people reference, I hope you don't mind.

Dear ????
My advice is : If you can find a job here, you may come back.
In these days, HK's pharmacists is a bit of oversupplied,. Chinese
U have 30 graduate each year, according to the last year data, only 13
of 30 get pharmacist posts ( I believe most of them are having a temp job,
or in the retail pharmacy).
I am a bit pessimistic about the pharmacy sector here. The community
pharmacy( well.. most) are being controlled by the owner who is little
concern about the profession.
In that situation, if you believe you are really bright and qualified,
you may come back and have a try. ( the salary is much better here after
all)
Since there were several dispensing errors in the govt clinics last years, it is widely believe the health authority are forced to employ pharmacist to take charge of the clinics. But the situation is not sure yet. Keep notice!
(well, you have to take a qualify exam if you have not yet registered with the Pharmacy and Poisons board of HK

thanx for yr quick response! I appreciate it
no matter I wil be back or not.
I did quite a bit of research already and
I saw the newspaper cutting for the 13/30 graduates-work-as-a-pharmacist-thing,
and the column about pharmacists in the Apple job-seeker...and the several
dispensing errors that happened, and i have the application to the 3 licensing
exams on hand......I knew it is not all promising....but chicago is real
cold....
plus, my family and friends are over here in
HK. Besides $, there are things that I can't find in the US...anyway, I
am gonna to keep looking. Unfortunate ly, i don't think i can gurantee
I have a job before i move back. I would proba bly be laid-off in 1 yr
or 2 in HK working as a dispenser and waiting for jobs.
My biggest hope would be for the govt to hire
more pharmacist. Right? Please keep me posted and thanx again for your
help.

Conerning the reg no., there is a book (one and only one)(called Compendium
of Pharmaceutical Products)(is available isn university liberary
and other main library reference sections) which published by the
HK Government that you can figure out the the ingredients and the
reg. no of the medicine, but you cannot find the name of the product
from the reg. no. If you really want to know for a special reason,
you have to ask the Pharmacy and Poisons Board for help.(2961 8781)
The following is an extract from the
dept of health web page:
" Once a medicine is approved for
registration, a registration number is issued. The registration number,
which is required to be labelled on the sales packs of the medicine,
consists of HK-, followed by a 5-digit number, i.e.HK-XXXXX. To avoid the purchase
of an unregistered medicine, you should check whether a
registration number is on the sales packs of the medicine. Other
particulars required to be labelled on a registered medicine are
: the name of the product, the manufacturer, and the composition
of the active ingredients. Additional information may also be required
to be labelled on certain medicines, e.g. cautionary statements, dosage,
route and frequency of administration.
A useful source of reference on registered medicines in Hong Kong is the Compendium of Pharmaceutical Products published by the Department of Health. It contains information on the product names, active ingredients and the registration number of the medicines. This publication is available for sale in Government Publications Centre, G/F, Low Block, Queensway Government Offices, 66 Queensway, Hong Kong. Enquiries on the registration status of medicine should be directed to the Pharmaceutical Service of the Department of Health on 2961 8781. "
Since I could not know the drug's name,
we don't know what it is for. You may ask again once you find
it out.
If you are looking for the Web information about GMP in HONG
KONG, I believe there are none available.
(Do the HKIB and the HKPC are doing that right now?)
There are plenty of GMP information in the Web of Taiwan and US, I
am sure you must have noticed.
Because the Pharmacy and Poisons of HK (you know this?) is now constructing
a legal GMP for the HK manufacturer ( you are talking pharmaceutical industry,
right?), you have to contact them ( if they willing to answer you.
Good luck with your search
